Back Pain, Arthritis Leaders in Chronic Pain
News agencies reported that drugs used for the treatment of chronic back pain and arthritis are the highest grossing segments of the market for chronic pain treatment and will continue to be so through 2020 according to certain forecasts.
Medications used in treated chronic back pain and arthritis made up roughly 57 percent of the total chronic pain medication market last year across the globe. This is due, in part, to the increasing global population. Studies also suggest that, between 2010 and 2020, the value of this market will remain stable at roughly $20 billion. The emerging alternative therapies for treatment of chronic back pain and arthritis are simply reformulations of existing products and will account for 18% of the overall chronic pain market by 2020. It is noted that these products will not be able to completely close the fiscal gap opening from generic erosion of key branded products.
Pharmaceutical companies are currently responding to the widespread problem of opioid abuse by incorporating non-addictive and abuse-deterrent formulations into these emerging products.
As a back pain doctor, I am aware of the growing issue of chronic back pain and arthritis among patients and am glad to hear of these advancements in pain management therapy. If you suffer from chronic back pain, it may be in your interests to speak with a pain management doctor to aid in your pain management.
