FDA OKs Generic Pregabalin
The neurological drug pregabalin (Lyrica), will soon be available in presumably lest expensive generic form. Lyrica users have reported costs ranging from about $30 a month with insurance coverage to around $134 a month without coverage.
India-based Lupin Ltd. said it had been granted FDA approval for generic formulations of pregabalin in eight oral strengths, the same as Lyrica.
Pregabalin is approved for several important indications including neuropathic pain related to diabetic complications, post-herpetic neuralgia, partial onset seizures (along with other medications), and fibromyalgia.
Sales of Lyrica have been bringing about $1.8 billion in revenue to Pfizer.
